I think this graphic explains it pretty well.
The Search Engine Keywords box feeds the Keywords Meta tag.
Head of Google Webspam – Matt Cutts – “Google doesn’t use the keywords meta tag in web search” – http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/keywords-meta-tag-in-web-search/
ProStores even states that its useless in their Knowledgebase. https://navisite.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sys_kb_id=75f5fb0a0a0a3c1b0041ccaab4c99f0a Could you guys just remove the box altogether? You can even leave the alone the keywords people have put in already, just hide the box!
By leaving the box in merchants get confused and often waste many hours inputting keywords Google/Yahoo/Bing will never use. I know this for a fact, I just had a client ask me if he needed to stop putting in his Product Keywords while I worked on installing his newly purchased template. 🙂 It was his question that I gave me the idea to write this post in the first place.
Is there a way for the Prostores search box to be able to search content within the site? I.e searching the contents on user defined pages.
Thats a good question, I’ll forward it on to my contact at ProStores so I can double check what the Storefront search box indexes and searches for.
